The development path

US CPSC guidance, built on ASTM F1816, prohibits drawstrings at the hood and neck of children’s upper outerwear in sizes 2T–12, and limits waist and bottom drawstrings in sizes 2T–16: maximum 3 inches outside the channel when the garment is fully extended, no toggles or knots at the free ends, and continuous cords bar-tacked so they cannot be pulled through.
